The HISTORY & GROWTH OF THE KIWANIS CLUB OF CAMBRIAN PARK Our “Key Number” is K04127 The Los Gatos Kiwanis Club started the effort to build a new club at the Cambrian Plaza. Their members, chaired by Carl Cunningham, visited each business at the Cambrian Plaza, telling the owner about Kiwanis, the work Kiwanis does in the community and suggesting the formation of a Kiwanis Club in Cambrian Park. Carl Cunningham became the first President of the resulting Kiwanis Club of Cambrian Park; sponsored by The Kiwanis Club of Los Gatos and chartered on January 19, 1954. Right from the beginning, the goal was to join the INTERNATIONAL KIWANIS ORGANIZATION in serving the Children of the World and individuals with special needs. BUT to serve our community first; and to make our presence in the community widely known. One of our early Fund Raising Projects was the Tour and Luncheon Sale at Hayes Mansion. Our members provided the goods sold; the most notable of which were Mrs. Chamberlein’s embroidered tea towels. The project was so successful, the Hayes Mansion Foundation decided to do an exact fundraiser themselves every year. We have embarked on several other legal means of raising funds down through the years. Several of our endeavors have been very successful; such as the Rummage Sale, and Pancake Breakfast; others have not. Our major successful fund-raiser for the past 35 years has been the Christmas Tree Sale, hosted at the centrally located Leigh High School parking lot. The following details a few of the many programs benefiting from our fundraisers: Community Center Friday Night Movies, Breakfast with Santa, Easter Egg Stravanza, Celebrate Cambrian, and more Financial Aid College Scholarships for qualifying HS Seniors Summer Music Camp Professional instruction for our two week camp Cambrian Park Little League Coaching and sponsorship Christmas Trees Donated to needy families, churches, schools & shelters For a complete listing of our activities please visit us at
